Two people have been rescued but the Coast Guard says the search is on for a third person who went missing last night in the Mississippi River after a towing vessel sank.
Officials say the incident happened near Myrtle Grove in Plaquemines Parish.
It was not immediately known what caused the boat to sink near mile marker 55. There is a waterway closure between mile marker 55 and mile marker 58.
The Coast Guard says search crews include:
- Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew
- Coast Guard Station Venice 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew
- Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Department marine asset crew
