Abortion Ban Being Considered By Legislature

Louisiana may follow in the footsteps of other surrounding states by signing controversial legislation banning abortions once a heartbeat is detected.

The bill is sponsored by Senator John Milkovich of Shreveport and considered to be among the most restrictive anti-abortion laws in the country. Exceptions can be made in cases where the mother's life is put at risk if the pregnancy isn't terminated or if the fetus has died while in utero.

Physicians would need to provide statements describing what medical condition is causing the need for an abortion.
