New Orleans Looks To Make Millions By Lowering Speeding Threshold

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune is reporting that a City Hall analysis indicated New Orleans could pocket millions more in fines by lowering the threshold for speeding in school zones.

The news outlet reports that the threshold change from six-miles-per-hour to four-miles-per-hour over the speed limit could result in an additional $7 million in revenue from its traffic enforcement cameras. The change was implemented in February, the mayor's office saying it was done to improve safety.

The public didn't learn of the change until news reports of it surfaced.
