Voters in Jefferson Parish will decide on a millage renewal that funds two-thirds of the coroner's budget.
City officials say if the millage is approved, taxes wouldn't be raised, the fund would just be renewed.
The money would go towards things such as the forensic center as well as investigations into rape and deaths. It also would allow for community outreach programs involving the coroners office in hopes of reducing opioid abuse.
Early voting for the special election starts next Saturday, with Election Day coming on May 4th.
