New Orleans Council Members Push For Hike To State's Minimum Wage

Minimum Wage Concept

Two members of the New Orleans City Council are pushing for Louisiana lawmakers to allow local governments to raise the minimum wage.

The bill would allow local governments to set their own minimum wages along with worker protection policies.

Louisiana currently has the federal minimum wage standard of $7.25 per hour, but the two city council members pushing the bill want to see single parents afford basic costs such as housing, food and child care.
