Mayor Cantrell Issues Apology For 1891 Italian Lynching

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued an official apology today for the 1891 Italian lynching.

The Proclamation of Apology was issued to the Italian American Community in a private event organized by the American Italian Cultural Center, Commission of Social Justice and the Order Sons of Italy.

The 1891 lynching of eleven Italian immigrants is said to be the largest in U.S. history. They all were killed after acquittals in the murder of a police chief, and Italy responded by closing it's embassy in the U.S.
