Drop In Metro New Orleans Population Blamed On Jefferson Parish

New Orleans, Louisiana

The U.S. Census Bureau is estimating that the population of Metro New Orleans is shrinking for the first time since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The biggest shift in population comes in Jefferson Parish, where the population dropped by more than 2,200 residents from 2017 to 2018.

The Census Bureau also says that the population of St. Tammany Parish has grown every year this decade, but they do not link St. Tammany's growth to Jefferson's decline.
