The police officer who was involved in the rescue effort on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway on Tuesday had a personal stake in the effort.
Christian Coyne was riding with his father on the Causeway in 2005 when their vehicle got a flat tire and an impaired driver slammed into them, killing his dad. Coyne said he found his calling to help others after that.
The officer is being credited with jumping into the water to save two people and a dog.
