A bill that would have made Louisiana's gas tax 18-cents higher over the next 12 years was shelved yesterday.

Baton Rouge Republican Representative Steve Carter said it's too late in the session to push for the passage of HB 542. Carter, who is term limited, said the gas tax would raise funds for crumbling infrastructure and congested streets in the city.

The bill would have specifically allocated money for improving the state's infrastructure.
