Researchers at Tulane University say they are developing a new less addictive type of opioid drug that is as strong as morphine.

Results from pre-clinical testing released yesterday have shown fewer side effects than other opioids along with significant less dependency.

The drug was developed at Tulane with the help of the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System with the hope of providing better pain relief and recovery time to patients. Experts said they hope to begin a new round of tests with Human Clinical trials soon.
