Demolition Underway On Old Grand Theater In East New Orleans

Demolition began today on the abandoned old Grand Theater which has been vacant since Hurricane Katrina.

City Councilwoman Cindy Nguyen said the demolition is long overdue and had been held up because the city could not use code enforcement seizure laws because the building and the land had separate owners.

The old Grand Theater is located in the former Lake Forest Plaza on Read Boulevard and was gutted by fire just over a week ago. The fire caused severe damage to the property, which has allowed the city to move forward with the demolition process.
