(Morganza, LA) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it will now delay opening the Morganza Spillway until Sunday, June 9th. The Corps made the announcement yesterday, marking the second time the opening has been delayed. According to reports, the rate of water elevation in the river is now expected to reach 60-feet on June 12th instead of June 9th as originally predicted. If the Army Corps does not encounter further postponements, it would be only the third time since 1954 that the spillway has been opened.
