New Orleans Music Legend Dr. John Passes Away At Age 77

Dr. John Mardi Gras Celebration

Music fans are mourning the loss of New Orleans legend Malcolm John Rebennack, known worldwide as Dr. John, who passed away yesterday at the age of 77.

Rebennack's family said the musician died from a heart attack early Thursday morning.

A six-time Grammy winner, Dr. John's music combined blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, and rock-n-roll into a unique sound influenced by his interest in New Orleans voodoo.

In 2011 Dr. John was inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, and his last live performance was in 2017 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
