Federal Hate Crime Charges Filed In Connection To La. Church Fires

The man accused of burning down three African-American churches in Louisiana is being indicted on federal hate crime charges.

Federal prosecutors said yesterday that Holden Matthews faces three counts of intentional damage to religious property.

The indictment says the fires were set because of the religious nature of the buildings and not because of race.

Holden is accused of setting fire to three churches near Opelousas earlier this year in March and has already pled not guilty to state charges.
