A former Jefferson Parish councilman accused of wire fraud and tax evasion is asking the court to delay his trial.
Attorneys for Chris Roberts filed the delay motion yesterday saying they needed more time for discovery.
Roberts resigned from the council in April and was indicted a month later on 22 counts of wire fraud and seven counts of tax evasion.
Currently, Roberts' pre-trial conference is set for June 20th with proceedings to begin on July 29th, but officials say they believe Federal Judge Wendy Vitter will grant the request for a delay.
