Gators are seemingly taking over a swampy area of St. Charles Parish.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says it's not unusual to see some gators in the area near the I-310 exit to Boutte, but the opening of the spillway has attracted a larger number of them.
Experts say gators normally avoid people, but since humans have been feeding the group in the area, they've been approaching people more frequently in hopes of getting food.
Anyone who spots a gator is encouraged not to feed it or entice it to leave its natural habitat.
