Officials are warning residents of an increase to the mosquito population from the aftermath of Hurricane Barry.

Experts say mosquitoes have already been thriving in the hot weather and standing water from the extra rain could make matters worse.

The largest concern is from the West Nile Virus which is carried by mosquitoes and has been found in the Tammany Hills area south of Covington, Cane Bayou, and near Ben Thomas Road in Slidell.
