Music Legend Art Neville Passes Away At Age 81

The music world is mourning the passing of New Orleans funk legend Art Neville who died on Monday at the age of 81.

Born in New Orleans and given the nickname Poppa Funk, he was the eldest of the famous musical Neville family and was a founding member of The Meters.

Neville announced his retirement from performing last December citing growing health issues and retreated to his home on Valence Street.

Considered a pioneer of funk music, Neville will be remembered for such classic songs as Cissy Strut, Look-Ka Py Py, Healing Chant and Sister Rosa.
