Governor John Bel Edwards expects Louisiana to have another $300 million budget surplus when the books are closed for the fiscal year.

Edwards made the announcement today, saying the number is based off preliminary information gathered by the budget office.

The fiscal year concluded on June 30th, but the state is still finalizing the books and finishing the budget for the year.

Edwards has boasted the budget surplus from last year during his re-election campaign, but Republicans say it's evidence the state is overtaxing.
