City Council Bans Short Term Rentals In Specific Areas

Short-term rentals will not be allowed in the French Quarter or the Garden District after December 1st.

This comes after City Council approved new restrictions Thursday.

Under those new restrictions, some residential owners have to use their primary property home to host short-term rentals and commercial or mixed-use owners can only rent 25% of the units in their building.

Short-term rental companies are required to take down any listings that violate the city's new rules.

Airbnb said the regulations "unfairly punish responsible short-term rental hosts who are contributing to the local economy."
