Wildlife officials are warning New Orleans residents to be cautious following an increase in the number of alligator sightings this year.
The most recent gator was seen yesterday in a neighborhood in New Orleans East.
The closing of the Bonnet Carre Spillway has been linked as a cause of the increase as the predators were forced into populated areas to find food.
Residents are warned to check around their homes and immediately call authorities if a gator has been found on their property.
