Former St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain Facing 16 Federal Charges

The U.S. Attorney's Office is announcing a 16-count federal indictment against Former St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain.

Strain has been accused of conspiracy-related charges connected to his privately-run inmate work release program.

The federal charges are the latest legal issues to haunt Strain, as he pleaded not guilty earlier this month to a number of different sex crimes dating back to the 1970s, where prosecutors allege he raped underage boys and committed incest.

If he were to be convicted on the sex charges, Strain already would be facing a mandatory life sentence.
