Doctors say former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards is expected to recover after being hospitalized yesterday.

According to reports, dehydration from a recent illness caused Edwards' blood sugar to drop, and he was admitted to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Hospital.

The 92-year-old was put on an IV drip and was later seen in good spirits joking with family and hospital staff.

Edwards was elected governor of Louisiana three times from 1972 until 1980, again from 1984 until 1988, and finally from 1992 to 1996.
