City officials are using millions of new dollars to rename the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center.

The city is now undertaking a new initiative to reform the facility, previously known as the Youth Study Center, including an additional 60 positions, for which they are now hiring.

The new changes come following an incident where SWAT officers were called to the center to put down what initial police reports referred to as a riot last month.

Police said the juveniles were threatening to harm staff members and themselves.

The $3 million will fund the center that will soon add 28 new beds, as well as protective equipment like shields.
