Sudden LaPlace Steel Mill Shutdown Leaves Hundreds Without Work

Abandoned Factory Locked Gate

Hundreds of workers are soon to be out of a job following the sudden closure of Bayou Steel in LaPlace.

Officials confirmed the shutdown yesterday saying the mill will close for good on November 30.

Nonessential employees were laid off on Monday, leaving around 350 people out of work.

Bayou Steel, which began operations in LaPlace in 1979, did not immediately release a reason for the closure.
