A revitalization effort is getting underway in parts of the West End.

New Orleans City Council members say they hope to see the $5 million of improvements to the area help it return to the way it once was.

The project is being funded by FEMA and will help restore damaged areas of the roadway, sidewalks, and the Breakwater retaining wall.

A pedestrian bridge is also expected to be built across the 17th Street Canal.

Officials say the land is divided between the state, Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish, which is what took the project so long to get underway, but all three are now on the same page and are ready to move forward.
