Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says they have officially transitioned from rescue mode to recovery mode at the site of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse.
Speaking near the construction site, Edwards said they are working on a timeline for cranes to be taken down before a potential tropical storm in the Gulf brings elevated winds.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell said crews have removed debris on nearby streets and vehicles from the adjacent parking garages.
Fire Chief Tim McConnell says their goal now is to get the building down as a safely as possible in a way that will not impact the community.
