Controlled Demolition Of Cranes At Hard Rock Site Takes Place On Sunday

US-HOTEL-CONSTRUCTION-ACCIDENT

Two unstable cranes at the site of the Hard Rock Hotel are down following a controlled demolition yesterday afternoon.

Originally scheduled for Friday, the demo took place on Sunday and was called a successful operation by Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Video of the explosion shows one crane impaling the ground on Rampart Street like a javelin while the second lays just above Canal Street.

Officials say the fallen cranes did no further damage to the hotel or the surrounding buildings.

City officials are also scaling back the size of the evacuation zone around the site of the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel.

The new zone announced on Sunday now limits access within Basin Street, Bienville Street, Burgundy Street, and Canal Street.

Three people were killed and dozens more injured when a large section of the hotel collapsed during construction on October 12th.
