Five People Accused Of Staging Crash With 18-Wheeler In 2017

Truck driving on remote road

Five people have been indicted after officials accuse them of staging an accident by intentionally crashing with an 18-wheeler on Chef Menteur Highway in 2017.

Damian Labeaud is accused of driving Lucinda Thomas' Chevrolet Avalanche into an 18-wheel truck on Chef Menteur near Downman Road.

Officials grew suspicious after an accident attorney allegedly paid Labeaud $7,500, long before any lawsuit was filed in the case.

The unnamed attorney is not charged in the indictment, but Labeaud and the other defendants including Thomas, Mary Wade, Judy Williams and Dashontae Young are charged with conspiracy and five counts of wire fraud.

No court date has been set in the case.
