A Parish Environmental Consultant is warning that a foul odor from noxious gas at the public landfill could get worse before it gets better.
Kris Carlson addressed the Jefferson Parish Council on Wednesday, telling them that dozens of new gas wells will be installed soon to collect gas that's been escaping into the air, but said the initial drilling of the wells would make the smell worse.
Carlson said they have some strategies to help while drilling the wells, but constructing them will add to the odor temporarily.
Crews are scheduled to begin working on the new $5 million gas collection system on Monday.
