Residents of Orleans Parish are mourning the passing of a civil servant following the death of Judge Angelique Reed over the weekend.
First City Court officials confirmed on Sunday that the 59-year old Reed had passed away after a brief illness.
A graduate of Ursuline Academy, Xavier University, and Loyola University Law School, in 1998 Reed became the first African-American judge to serve in the First City Court for the Parish of Orleans.
New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell issued a statement praising Reed for her public service and her dedication to justice.
