Two New Orleans area teachers are being honored for their contributions to education.

The Milken Family Foundation awarded Jennifer Williams and Steven Gamache the Milken Educator Award which boasts a $25,000 grant to be used at the teachers' discretion.

Williams, who teaches sixth grade English at John Q. Adams Middle School, was chosen for the creative ways she engages students, while Gamache who teaches at Paul Habans Charter School, was chosen for holding book discussions during class that resemble college seminars.

Williams and Gamache are part of up to 40 people to receive the award across the country during the 2019-2020 school year.
