The developer of the Hard Rock Hotel says they have a new plan which would see the rest of the collapsed building demolished instead of imploded.
In a report submitted to the city yesterday, building owners 1031 Canal Development LLC said they had been advised by experts that using an implosion at the site will cause a debris field that could endanger the surrounding area.
The building owners say that demolition from the top of the remaining structure down is now believed to be the safest way to move forward.
NOFD Chief Tim McConnell responded to the plan saying the city's engineers will now begin a vetting review of the proposal before deciding how to proceed.
