A former Jefferson Parish deacon arrested on rape charges is out of jail after posting a surety bond for bail of $1 million.

George Brignac was released from jail yesterday after over a week in confinement.

Brignac was indicted on December 13th following a victim's statement claiming the one-time deacon sexually abused them in the 1980s while they were an altar boy.

The Archdiocese of New Orleans says Brignac was dismissed from his deaconship in the latter half of the 1980s, and they will be fully cooperating with any investigations.
