Doctors in Louisiana are reporting a record number of flu and RSV cases in the state.

According to the Louisiana Department of Health, residents have been getting hit hard with an early flu season and the respiratory virus RSV.

Officials say the best defenses against the illness are washing your hands frequently, staying home if you're feeling sick, and getting the flu shot.

Last year, over 15,000 people were hospitalized for the flu in Louisiana and nearly 1,600 of those cases led to death.
