A former Jefferson Parish deacon arrested on rape charges is in the hospital after suffering a fall while in custody.
George Brignac's attorney Martin Regan confirmed yesterday that his 84-year-old client has been recovering at University Medical Center this week.
Brignac was waiting to be released after posting a surety bond for bail of $1 million when he fell from his bunk and broke his back.
Regan says Brignac will require surgery, and he hopes to have his client moved to East Jefferson General Hospital.
