New data is showing that Louisiana is ranked as one of the nation's top states with high flu activity.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the Pelican State has reported nearly 3,000 cases of influenza this flu season.

Officials are urging residents to see a doctor once they begin experiencing symptoms like high fever, headaches, and severe body aches.

As children head back to school, authorities are reminding students to be consistent about washing their hands, wiping down commonly shared items like door handles and school supplies.

The news comes after the CDC announced that an estimated 2,900 deaths were caused by the flu this season.
