A severe weather threat has the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board preparing to respond.
The forecast includes the chance of tornadoes, strong winds and hail through the metro region Saturday.
Utility officials say they have made all drainage pumps available and are equipped with enough power to run the area's drainage system.
The National Weather Service is calling the storm system moving into the state Friday a "vigorous" storm with severe thunderstorms continuing into Saturday.
