Governor John Bel Edwards is announcing a new change to Lousiana State Police's Protective Services unit.

Edwards tapped on Capt. Treone Larvadain to lead the unit, making her the first African American female captain in LSP history.

Larvadain succeeds Captain Clay Chutz, who recently retired after 30 years of service.

A representative with the governor's office says Larvadain has been with the force for over a decade, having started her career with Troop C in March 2006.
