New Proposal Aims To Eliminate Death Penalty In Louisiana

Death penalty law and capital offense crimes

State officials are aiming to eliminate capital punishment with a new bill.

State Representative Kyle Green Junior proposed House Bill 38 yesterday which would get rid of the death sentence as a form of punishment.

According to the legislation, anyone who commits first-degree murder, first degree rape and treason would receive a max sentence of life imprisonment without consideration of parole, probation or suspension.

If the proposal were to be passed in the upcoming legislative session beginning in March, inmates currently on death row would be re-sentenced.
