A woman is dead after she tried to cross in between a tandem float and was run over last night during the Krewe of Nyx parade.
According to reports, the accident involved float 21 in the 44-float parade and occurred around 8 p.m. near Magazine Street.
Police say the woman tripped over the float's hitch and was caught underneath the back, and the floats behind her were stopped and did not finish the route. Mayor LaToya Cantrell said it was the "proper thing to do."
Nyx Captain Julia Lea released a statement on the tragic event offering condolences to the woman's family.
