Those who worked with former Jefferson Parish councilman Chris Roberts are reacting to the news of his suicide this week.
Roberts, who was scheduled to go on trial this August on charges of tax evasion and wire fraud, was found dead on Wednesday in a wooded area of Belle Chasse where he had apparently hung himself.
Several former colleagues spoke of his two decades on the school board and parish council saying despite personal demons, he was an advocate for his constituents.
Roberts' trial had recently been pushed from June to August, and if convicted he could have been sentenced to almost 475 years in prison and a fine of over $6 million.
