Jefferson Parish School Board Passes District Restructuring Amendment

A plan to restructure several schools in the Jefferson Parish School District is moving forward following a contentious vote.

At a meeting held last night, the Parish School Board heard from the public for almost four hours about plans to consolidate some schools, including a historically African-American elementary school.

In the end, the board voted unanimously on the plan with a few amendments.

With the plan approved, the consolidation of Washington and Bunche elementary schools will be postponed until 2021, while the city of Westwego must now support enrollment efforts at Myrtle Thibodeaux Academy.
