Governor John Bel Edwards is laying out his administration's top priorities for the state while also addressing growing concerns over the coronavirus.
Edwards spoke yesterday to lawmakers before they opened the 2020 legislative session, announcing a possible positive COVID-19 patient in Louisiana before launching into a list of measures he would like see come to his desk.
Edwards said among his top priorities are reducing maternal mortality rates, fixing auto insurance premiums, and an increase in funding for early and higher education programs.
Republican critics said they were disappointed there was not more focus in Edwards' speech on the state's infrastructure problems.
