The number of deaths in Louisiana from the COVID-10 coronavirus increased to 6 Wednesday, as the state announced the passing of two more residents of Lambeth House in uptown New Orleans from the virus. Both were in their 90s.

Gov. John Bel Edwards said Wednesday afternoon the number of cases statewide has grown to 257 and he expects that number to increase quickly as more testing has come online and more results will be coming back. The majority of cases continue to be located in Orleans Parish.

East Baton Rouge also has another positive case of coronavirus. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center confirmed the latest patient is in their care.

"Our team followed protocol once COVID-19 was suspected. The patient was isolated and the diagnosis confirmed through a state-run diagnostic test. We have developed a list of team members who came into contact with this patient and areas the patient visited. All of those identified areas have been disinfected and team members will follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for monitoring their health," read a statement from OLOL.

The Wednesday update from the Governor was attended by LSU football coach Ed Orgeron, who encouraged all Louisiana residents to "follow the gameplan".
