The New Orleans Police Department is cutting back on minor crimes throughout the city.
The department announced yesterday that they will be issuing citations, summons, or both when possible rather than taking people into physical custody for low-level offenses.
The NOPD added that despite the new regulation, they still maintain the authority to arrest any individual actively breaking the law.
As part of the new rule, school zone speed limits are not in effect at this time.
