The Morial Convention Center will be used as an additional facility in the case of a hospital overspill.
During a press conference yesterday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell confirmed that the space would be used if hospitals became overpacked with COVID-19 patients.
Cantrell referred to the convention center as a "surge" medical facility and hopes to use the facility for non-coronavirus patients as well.
The news come after the state experienced a high increase in coronavirus cases.
