The 2020 Essence Festival is being postponed due to the coronavirus.

The annual festival that celebrates black women has been pushed back closer to the fall.

In a statement, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said that the postponement is a precaution to prevent any further spread of the virus.

Organizers say they will honor all tickets sold for prior scheduled performances and will announce the new dates for the festival soon.
