State officials are working on converting Morial Convention Center into an overflow field hospital to handle coronavirus COVID-19 patients.

Governor John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell toured the facility yesterday, which is expected to be ready to house one-thousand hospital beds this week.

If needed, the convention center will be used for patients who do not need to use a ventilator or the ICU to keep those open for more critical cases.

Across the street from the convention center, another space will be used to accommodate patients who have shown symptoms but are still waiting for their test results.
