City legislators are looking to secure housing for people severely impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Council members Kristin Gisleson Palmer and Jay H. Banks are joining representatives from other major cities to urge federal officials to cancel rent payments and impose a moratorium on mortgages.

Palmer said the move comes after the city's tourism industry had taken a hit due to the pandemic, leaving thousands unemployed.

Elected leaders from cities like Boston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and New York City will also be expressing their support to provide some measure of relief for workers and families struggling because of the pandemic.
